Uniroyal® Tire and Kim Danger Team Up to Help Consumers Save
GREENVILLE, S.C. - (Aug. 4, 2009) - Preparing a child for a new school year may be time consuming, costly and hectic. Kim Danger, founder of MommySavers.com and mother of two, and Uniroyal® Tire make the back-to-school transition smooth and cost-efficient with a new, free e-book titled "Back to School on a Budget."
This free e-book is full of advice on how to shop frugally for new school supplies, save money on extracurricular activities, and help your child avoid the back-to-school blues. You can download the e-book at www.UniroyalTires.com/moremileageforyourmoney.
"Knowing when stores have the lowest prices on the items you need - and planning accordingly - can save you hundreds of dollars without having to spend extra time shopping around," said Danger. "Back-to-school shopping is no exception - timing is everything."
- Most stores have their biggest sales in late July and early August while advertising their back-to-school campaigns.
- Many mass retailers are picked over during back-to-school peak times. Try paying a visit to places such as office supply stores, dollar stores and even craft stores.
- Buy your child's school wardrobe as you find the best bargains instead of going on a single shopping spree.
Throwing a back-to-school party may be the answer to getting your child excited about the upcoming school year. A get-together with school themed games and food is a great way to increase back-to-school eagerness for your children and their classmates.
- Encourage guests to bring photos and have a show-and-tell of their favorite part of their break.
- Decorate a back-to-school cake using the school's colors and mascot.
- Embellish school supplies and use them for party favors or prizes for games.
Finding a healthy balance of academic and entertaining activities is a great way to provide your child with new experiences and learning opportunities. Try to get creative with cost-efficient after-school activities such as those below, which can work with any budget.
- Invest in a family membership to a zoo or museum to create enjoyable and educational opportunities throughout the year.
- Consider shopping for secondhand sports equipment for your child to use in school or league sports.
- Sign up for private lessons in the activity of your child's choice while pairing up with another child for a discount.
The back-to-school season is an ideal time to make sure your vehicle is in perfect running condition. Follow these simple tips to ensure your family's safety and that your car is properly maintained.
- Check the tread condition of your tires. Place a penny upside down in the shallowest tread groove. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, then your tires need to be replaced.
- Replace clogged air filters. This is a biggie! A clean filter instead of one that is severely clogged can have a big impact on gas savings. Air filters also keep impurities in the air from damaging internal engine components.
- Check the inflation pressure of your tires. Research conducted by Uniroyal tells us that most Americans are driving around on under-inflated tires. You need to check your tire inflation pressure "cold" (at least three hours after the vehicle has been stopped and before it has been driven one mile) once a month and adjust accordingly. The proper inflation pressure can be found in the owner's manual or on the placard usually found on the doorjamb. The pressure indicated on the tire sidewall is the maximum pressure allowed, not what is recommended for your vehicle. Properly inflated tires not only contribute to greater fuel efficiency, but also last longer and perform better.
