NEW FREE EBOOK OFFERS FOOD-RELATED SAVINGS TIPS

"Shopping and Cooking Efficiently" by Kim Danger available at Uniroyal.com

GREENVILLE, S.C. - (August 6, 2008) - Given the meteoric rise of food prices, savings expert Kim Danger has teamed up with Uniroyal Tire to release a free eBook packed with food-related savings tips. Available for download at Uniroyal.com/moremileageforyourmoney, "Shopping and Cooking Efficiently" outlines ways to save both time and money between the grocery store and the kitchen. The Uniroyal website includes a series of 14 videos featuring Kim Danger that can also be found on the "Miles for Less Club" YouTube channel (Youtube/miles4lessclub).

The following tips are just some of the ideas outlined in the new eBook and video series - following them will have you raking in the savings in no time.

Plan menus ahead of time. Organized and efficient shopping starts with a menu plan. First, decide how often you want to visit the grocery store. Then grab your calendar and decide how many meals you'll need to cook in that time frame. Take note of any perishables nearing their expiration dates, and plan your meals around incorporating them as much as possible in order to avoid wasting food.

Get to know your coupons. When is a coupon not a good deal? In many cases, the generic version of what you're buying is cheaper than the more expensive counterpart even WITH a coupon. Sometimes it's not. Aim to combine your coupons with in-store sales - a lot of grocery stores also offer in-store coupons. Also, try to shop at stores that will double your coupons.

Save money on the way to the store. By making sure your tires are well-maintained, you can save even more money driving to the grocery store. Before getting into your car, check your tire inflation pressure. A tire that is 20 percent underinflated can reduce fuel economy by up to 3 percent. Do not buy used tires, and buy the same tire for each of your wheels.

Organize. Always. With a little organization and pre-planning, you can greatly simplify your cooking routine and come up with great-tasting meals. Keep plenty of convenience foods on hand, since preparing meals from scratch is not always possible.

Use your freezer. Wouldn't it be great if you could cook for one day, and eat for a month? That's the premise behind once-a-month cooking. In just a few hours, you'll have done the basic prep work needed to create meals to last for weeks. Choose meals with similar ingredients. For example, when making Italian foods like spaghetti sauce and lasagna you can make one big batch of sauce to use in both. To save even more money, let the sale items at the grocery store be your guide. When it comes to chopping onions, garlic, celery, or shredding cheese and browning hamburger, do everything all at once and then divide items according to the recipes you're using.

In 2006, Uniroyal Tire created the "More Mileage for Your Money" campaign to help consumers address increasing gas costs and rising everyday expenses. Today, the public service campaign not only offers easy tips for saving money on gas and automotive costs, but also provides straightforward advice on a variety of family areas. Working in partnership with Kimberly Danger, Uniroyal Tire offers a series of videos, tips and eBooks throughout 2008 on topics such as family budgeting, organization, summer travel, time management and cooking and shopping efficiently.

"We started this campaign to continue our mission of providing high quality tires at affordable prices," said Kaz Holley, Uniroyal Tire brand director, "but being a tire company does not mean you only want to help people save money on tires. Kim Danger has helped us reach the goal of helping people get the most value out of their purchases."

Kim Danger is a nationally-recognized consumer advocate and family-savings expert. She is the author of "1000 Best Baby Bargains," a feature columnist for "Organize" magazine and the founder of Mommysavers.com, an online resource and forum for women.
