Uniroyal® Tire and Julie Foudy Donate $286,000 to Youth Soccer

Equipment Donation Tied to Foudy's World Cup Participation

Greenville, SC (October 30, 2003) — Uniroyal® Tire announced today a donation of $286,000 in equipment to youth soccer leagues around the country as a result of Julie Foudy's play in the 2003 World Cup. Foudy, captain of the U.S. Women's National Team, was on-hand today at a Michelin corporate gathering to participate in the check presentation.

Uniroyal and Foudy joined forces for this year's Women's World Cup to benefit programs in communities where Uniroyal and its dealers are supporting youth soccer leagues. For every minute Foudy played in the tournament, Uniroyal donated $500 in soccer equipment to various leagues. For every goal she scored, the company donated $50,000. At the conclusion of this year's tournament, Foudy played a total of 472 minutes and scored one goal.

"Today's announcement underscores Uniroyal's continuing commitment to children across America through its youth soccer program," said Jim Micali, chairman and president of Michelin North America, Inc. "Teaming up with Julie Foudy makes this donation even more special. She serves as an outstanding role model to millions of children and has played a key role in the phenomenal growth of youth soccer."

Foudy, a four-year spokesperson for Uniroyal, is a veteran member of the U.S. National Team and the WUSA's San Diego Spirit. This year, the national team finished in third place after a devastating loss to Germany in the semi-final round of the World Cup.

"I am thrilled that Uniroyal supported youth soccer through my participation in the World Cup," said Foudy. "It was an added pressure that only complemented the excitement of the entire tournament and in the end, I helped Uniroyal donate money to purchase much-needed equipment that will enable young athletes to play the greatest game - soccer."

Uniroyal has been a big supporter of youth soccer over the past four years, raising more than $4.5 million through equipment donations, fundraising initiatives and a four-year US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer title sponsorship.

"Regardless of the outcome of this year's tournament, we, like millions of Americans, cheered Julie and her teammates on until the end," said Tim Jamison, Uniroyal brand director. "We were cheering particularly loud for Julie - because the more she contributed to the team, the more we contributed to youth soccer programs across America."
