Uniroyal® Tire And Julie Foudy Bring Home The Gold For Youth Soccer Uniroyal Tire Donates Half a Million Dollars Based on Foudy's Participation in Athens Greenville, S.C. (August 27, 2004) — Julie Foudy, captain of the 2004 Women's Gold Medal Winning Team, is returning from Athens with more than first-place honors. As a result of Foudy's outstanding play in Greece, Uniroyal Tire is donating $503,000 in equipment for youth soccer leagues around the country. Uniroyal Tire and Foudy joined forces for this year's games to benefit programs in communities where Uniroyal and its dealers are supporting youth soccer leagues. For every minute Foudy played in Athens, Uniroyal Tire donated $1,000 in soccer equipment to various leagues. For every goal Foudy scored, Uniroyal Tire would have donated $100,000. At the conclusion of this year's tournament, Foudy played a total of 503 minutes and did not score any goals. "We are extremely proud of the U.S. Women's Soccer Team," said Uniroyal Tire Brand Director Tim Jamison. "They played their hearts out in the final match and we are thrilled to be associated with their team captain. Like millions of Americans, we cheered them on but cheered particularly loud for Julie - because the more she played for the U.S. team, the more we contributed to youth soccer programs across America." Foudy, who has been a spokesperson for Uniroyal Tire for nearly five years, is a 17-year veteran member of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team. This tournament in Athens represents her final appearance with the U.S. Women's National Team. Foudy will continue to serve as a leader in the sport of soccer through her participation in soccer clinics, camps and special appearances.
